A former member of the Alabama Army National Guard (Captain, Armor) and a Desert Shield veteran, Richard represents veterans in claims for service-connected disability before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This includes representation  before the Regional Office, The Board of Veterans Appeals (BVA) and the US Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. Representation includes claims for PTSD, Agent Orange and Service-connected physical and mental health claims. In addition, he practices in the areas of Bankruptcy Law and Social Security.

Richard is a graduate of the University of Alabama and the Alabama School of Law. Richard is active in the Quarterback Club of Gadsden, and with the Boy Scouts of America and the American Red Cross. Richard and his wife Debra have five children. They attend the First United Methodist Church of Attalla, Alabama.
